Partnering with industry for real-world impact

Imagineering tackles complex challenges involving numerous stakeholders, where no single solution fits all. While we may not find a definitive answer, choosing a direction is crucial. When everyone aligns in the same direction, we can continuously develop and make strides through co-creation. Think of complex issues like climate change, inclusivity, digitalization, and migration. We must recognize that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. In such complex systems, adjusting one element impacts others.

At Imagineering, students delve into the theoretical foundations of complexity, systems thinking, organizational structures, networks, and co-creation methods. This is just a glimpse of our comprehensive study program.

Concertgebouw Amsterdam
To give students hands-on experience with complexity, we actively connect with the professional field. Currently, our students are working on a project for Concertgebouw Amsterdam, a historic venue renowned for its acoustics, especially for classical music. Despite Concertgebouw’s efforts to attract a diverse audience, they often see a homogeneous crowd, particularly for Western classical music. This is a missed opportunity, as the experience inside is truly moving. You might think, “Why not change the marketing strategy, lower ticket prices, or alter the programming?” However, these solutions only address part of the issue.

Our students navigate all phases of Imagineering (A, B, C, D, E & F), tackling questions like: What is the underlying question? Which stakeholders are crucial? What are the current trends? What concept can we develop? How can we prototype it? Ultimately, they aim to create a storytelling metaphor or concept to offer a fresh perspective.

We are immensely grateful to partners like Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, who open their doors to our students. Both, parties learn, grow, and embrace new ways of addressing these challenges. Soon, we will share the outcomes of this project!
